Our Trust deed was formally established in December 2007 by a group of passionate parents. Their aim was simple; to educate and enable our young teenagers with Down Syndrome to connect socially. This would be achieved within the membership and externally in the wider community.
This year the Board has worked hard to formalise the delivery of services to its members and establish an enduring frame work for the Trust. We all own a debit of gratitude to our last Chairman Jim Lysaght, for his passion and enthusiasm for the Up Club Charter. Our efforts will ensure the Trust has an enduring life beyond the position of the Chair.
The annual membership fee provides only around 7% of the funds required to deliver the current level of services, so the Trust has a continuous cycle of completing applications for funding and exploring opportunities to raise funds through either fund raising activities or corporate sponsorships.
The Trust is looking to expand the connections within the community to raise awareness of Up Club and the Trust’s activities. If you would like to find out more about the Trust or explore corporate sponsorships or assist with fund raising efforts, please feel free to e-mail us at coordinator@Upclub.org.nz
I have been involved with Up Club for the past 5 years, having co-founded the Step Up programme in 2012. I am the Mum of a junior Up Club member as well as 2 older children, and am passionate in providing social and educational opportunities for our members. I work as a medical receptionist and together with my husband own a hospitality franchise. It is a privilege to serve on the board and I look forward to an exciting future for the Up Club.
